Another beautiful
day weather-wise. I finished loading the
car by 6 am.
Then I went to see
what the complimentary breakfast hot option was at the Hampton Inn.
I decided to pass up the prepackaged cheese omelet and sausage. I
buttered something they call a bagel here in the heartland, added a schmear of
cream cheese and some jelly and took it with me.
The drive of 466 miles was pleasant and relaxing except for a stretch at the beginning
of Illinois where for literally an hour traffic moved at a couple of feet every
few minutes. So far gas prices are comparable to NY.
An exception so far was in Indiana where they were about 40 cents per
gallon LESS.
I’m now in cedar rapids, IA. Cousin Randy Schaffer will be picking me up soon and we’ll have dinner together.
Sooo… Randy and I
had dinner at the Black Sheep Social Club. Since I’m in Iowa I had no fear about
ordering the Iowa Pork Chop medium-rare...
Result: a poor little Iowan piggy died for no good reason.
It was the kind of pork chop you get in a thrift pack where the chop is
less than a half inch thick. They were cooked more like medium-well to well.
Flavor was very good and so were the mashed potatoes but that pork chop
could have been used to hammer a nail into a wall.
By the time the waitress returned to ask how the meal was we had finished
about half.
We were given
complimentary desserts to make up for the meh.
Here's a picture of me and Randy
