2026 TRIP

Day 9 - Southern California (Third Day)

Today I visited with cousins Eileen & Henry Cohen.  Growing up and through the present day and assuredly into the future Eileen, myself and another cousin Marci i had always felt we were more like a brother and two sisters than three cousins.  The good news was it wasn’t bad spending time with two very pretty girls, the bad news was they were cousins.  Anyway I digress.

After a few hours of good conversation and reminiscences at their house and an interrupted and cut short rummikub game they treated me to a boat ride in Newport Beach on what are called Duffys... electric drive it yourself boats.  Henry was the captain and the tour guide.  While cruising on the almost glass smooth water we passed Balboa Island where as a kid my family and my Aunt Marge, Uncle Art and cousins Barry and Henry (a different Henry who you’ll meet tomorrow) spent a weekend. Like I said the water is perfectly calm so it became easy for us 3 boys to dig up clams and save them in a bucket. Next we took the dozens if not hundreds of clams and threw them against the seawall. Within a couple of hours this beautiful and serene beach was inundated with seagulls and flies.  The following day when we returned to the beach a local gendarme greeted the families and warned us not to do that again or all of us including the adults would be banned from using the beach.  Ah memories.

After the boat ride we went for dinner at a different location of the Bluewater Grill.  Different from the one I dined at last night with Mike and Sandy. Just a big coincidence but perhaps because the food is good.  That gave me the opportunity to try the dish that I had difficulty deciding between the previous night.  One night was the pan-seared halibut amd the other was the fisherman's platter.  They were both good.
