2026 TRIP

Day 4 - Ogallala, Nebraska to Salt Lake City, Utah

When I started out today I saw that it had rained overnight. That was at 5:43 am. I got on I-80 and the sky was very dark. Some moderate rain fell for a few minutes but the darkness in the distance had me wondering if there was a tornado ahead.  Fortunately there wasn’t… perhaps because I wasn’t in Kansas but I’ll leave those references for Wednesday when I go to see the Wizard of Oz at The Sphere in Vegas.  I'm looking forward to a bit over 600 miles today... a piece of cake.

One of the pictures shows the weather clearing up and when you look at the highway are you able to tell the difference between the highway in Wyoming and the highway in Iowa or Nebraska?  The prettiest view was of the mountains as I approached my hotel.

I met great friends Ann & Dick Engar for dinner at a very good Chinese restaurant.  The name of this restaurant is Gary’s Asian Bistro.  Yes that’s the name... sounds like he wanted to span three continents with that name. Five years ago when I made a similar, around the country drive and visited with Ann & Dick they took me to an extraordinarily good Chinese restaurant.  When I told them I'd like to go back there, they told me the bad news that it had gone out of business.  The good news was they found another good one with an unlikely name.  They weren't wrong. Who'da thunk great Chinese food in Salt Lake City at a place named Gary's.  Even better than the food was their company both at the restaurant and in their home. We became friends when we met through our serving as officers in the Academy of General Dentistry... over 30 years ago.

As an aside, when you look at my pictures taken through my windshield please ignore my headsup display which shows the speed I'm going... Thank you!!

Turns out to be a beautiful day

For those of you who love looking at I-80

Less than 5 minutes from the hotel I had to pull over to the shoulder and take this picture
