Today ended my visiting with family and friends who live
hundreds if not thousands of miles from me. The visits today were with
classmates from dental school. This morning was with Steve and Diane who
only a few weeks ago moved to Florida from Long Island. Every few weeks
Steve and I would go to lunch together and occasionally I’d join him and
Diane for dinner.
They have included me for Seders and to break
the fast after Yom Kippur.. that was special.
Now that they are residing in the great
enveloping blanket of heat and humidity I will miss them not being on
Long Island.
For today’s few hours we had breakfast and
shared good conversation and reminiscences.
I feel like Linus losing his security blanket.
From their home I drove about 20 minutes to the home of another
dental school classmate Howie and his wife Gail. The good conversation
continued with jokes and anecdotes about our classmates as we leafed
through our yearbook.
Sadly so many of them are gone.
Dinner followed at Dominic's 3 and the entire
day ended way too soon.
I had to get back to the hotel to pack and get to sleep
reasonably early because for tomorrow’s start of the drive back to NY I
have to get up EARLY.
It’ll be almost a 750 mile drive tomorrow. The
longest day of driving for the entire trip.
I’ll have to remember to behave as I go through
Georgia because the last time I drove through that state I had the
misfortune of meeting a very attractive but very unfriendly deputy
sheriff who politely handed me a $410 ticket. |
